Currently at Motorola heading into my 5th year. As the Senior Director of Design for Converged Devices, Companion Products and Connected Home, I lead a cross discipline Design team of Industrial Design, User Interface/Visual Media, Engineering, Human Factors and Research developing a wide range of consumer electronic products. To achieve success, this team must be highly integrated and collaborative within the cross functional business organizations of Motorola.
Formerly of Lunar Design, roughly 18 years, where I left as Vice President of Design. I helped grow Lunar from the teens to 50 people strong during the dotcom hey day, all while maintaining a strong creative culture. I opened and ran the San Francisco office which instantly brought Lunar cache. Developing a strong design and design culture reputation, the SF office brought the final piece of recruiting power to create an international design team. Lunar has since extended their reach into Hong Kong and Germany with original members of the SF office.
During my years at Lunar, I was also asked to teach at CCAC (now CCA). Though it was a short stint, this gave me perspective and gentle reminder of how different professional life and student life can be.
Prior to Lunar Design, I was an independent consultant working with Design consultancies and developing my own clients in the SF Bay Area. And before that…had fun, but mundane jobs that contributed towards learning about work, responsibility and life at large.
