Design Crit is written by Max Yoshimoto. When the world of business, publishing, advertising and great design writing come together, he finds it difficult to discover design criticism that holds a point of view, is potentially polarizing, possibly offending, makes you think or is just plain light hearted. And of course, presented in tasty, short snippets, unlike this “about” page.
Most design writing puts design in a good light. Its easy to see why, don’t upset the manufacturer or designer, they are providing ad dollars and who knows, the writers might even be considered for employment by them at some point. If you’re a consultant, you just need to sound really smart, actually, you need to BE really smart if you want to survive. If you’re corporate, well, they have those internet spider things that scrub personal employee blogs and such, so you can’t really piss them off either!
Max doesn’t have a degree in English lit or Creative Writing, so please excuse any grammatical errors and just plain, poor English. But he is a design professional with over 20 years of design experience. He has designed and shipped numerous products and has had many not ship as well. His work has been published in ID magazine and Business Week to name a few. His portfolio reflects work that has been selected for award by the IDSA, iF Hannover, RedDot and ID magazine.
Um, why I writing in third person!
Enjoy
